Preparing your questions

  1. Plan your questions first

    • Decide how many questions you want in your assessment as a percentage of the course.

    • Have your questions typed up and ready beforehand to make the process smoother.

  2. Access the question bank

    • In the Course Creator, click on the questions tab at the bottom.

    • This opens the question bank, where all questions for the course are stored.

  3. Match questions to course sections

    • Ensure you add questions to the correct section in the bank (e.g., End of Learning).

    • This is important because if you add questions to the Start section but put question pages in End of Learning, they won’t match up, causing extra work.

Add a new question

  1. Click Add Question:

    • Within the End of Learning section of the Question Bank, click the Add Question button.

  2. Enter your question text:

    • Paste or type your question into the question field.

    • Example: “Who is responsible for enforcing health and safety regulations in the UK workplace?”

  3. Add answer options: Answer parameters

    • Enter the possible answers for the question.

    • You can add as many as you like.

    • Paste the options plainly to avoid formatting issues.

    • Mark the correct answer by ticking the corresponding box.

  4. Setting multiple correct answers if applicable:

    • If your question has multiple correct answers, mark each correct answer.

    • Adjust your question wording accordingly, e.g., select two correct answers.

  5. Active Status and Do Not Assign option

    • Active: Ensure the question is ticked as active to keep it live for learners.

    • Do Not Assign: Use this if the question is outdated or incorrect but should remain in learner records.

      • This means the question will not be assigned to new learners, but won’t affect past learners’ results.

      • Avoid making a question inactive unless you want to remove it completely, which will wipe existing learners’ data for that question.

  6. Answer Randomisation

    • Tick Answer Parameters not randomised if you want answers (e.g., True or False, All of the above) to always appear in the same order.

    • Leave it unticked to randomise answer order for the learner.

  7. Save the question.

    • Click Save and Create to add your question to the bank.

Building your question bank

  • To have a randomised assessment experience:

    • Add more questions than the minimum you want in the course.

    • For example, if you want 10 questions in the course, consider adding 12 questions in the bank to allow some random variation.

Creating question pages in the course

  1. Add question pages for each question:

    • Go to the End of Learning section of your course content.

    • Click Add Question to create a new question page.

    • Name the page clearly, e.g., Question 1 or Q1.

    • Save the page.

  2. Link questions to question pages

    • On the question page, choose whether the question is:

      • Random selection from the question bank, or

      • A Specific question from the dropdown list of bank questions.

    • If you only have one question, you can leave this as random.

  3. Repeat for each question

    • Create one question page per question.

    • For example, to have 10 questions in the course, create 10 question pages.

    • This means clicking Add Question, naming the page, and saving repeatedly.

Recap and further help

  • You should now have:

    • Your question bank populated with your prepared questions.

    • Each question marked active or “do not assign” appropriately.

    • Question pages created for each question in the End of Learning section.

  • This setup forms the basis of your End Assessment.

  • For detailed help on creating or updating questions, or question pages, click the Question Mark (?) icon in the top right corner of the Course Creator.

  • Then navigate to Question Bank user guides, where you can find step-by-step manuals and helpful tips.
