What's new?

In April 2022, mandatory calorie labelling was introduced in England, requiring businesses in the out-of-home sector like restaurants, cafรฉs, and takeaways with more than 250 employees to provide calorie information to guests.

More than a third of people in the UK underestimate their calorie intake. Coupled with the rise of obesity in the UK, the law was introduced to help guests make healthier decisions when eating out. It also aims to encourage businesses to amend the food and drink they offer and provide lower-calorie options for guests.

By the end of this activity, you will develop a clear understanding of calorie labelling, its legal impact on businesses, which foods require it, how to display it correctly, and how to use tools to ensure compliance.
